Drugs Please.... [Jul. 24th, 2008|07:13 pm]

[Current Location |On Mum's laptop in my old room at the parentals]
[mood | Owww....]
[music |SBS and ABC News]

6:31pm: So I'm updating this from my parents house because after work today I said "Screw this" and headed to the Big Bear Medical Centre to bitch about my IBS. The stomach was still painful today and Buscopan just doesn't work any more...

But the other Doc has set me up with 90 of those Colese tablets to take during flare ups, also he suggested a range of fibre-rich foods, so I got me some Sultanas as well. Although I was a bit surprised to find I had no repeats on the Colese because the Doc said I did, I probably should have gone back and pointed that out, but...

So yeah, hopefully I won't be bitching about stomach pain for a while.

Moving on, I went through one half of the Box Thing last night, tossing out a lot of newspapers and crap, I mean I wanted to read them, but I know I never would, so screw that. More difficult though, is what to do with this story I wrote years and years ago, by hand. It's actually a pretty shitty story I have no idea what the Hell I was thinking when I wrote it, but I don't want to throw it out. Having said that though, I don't feel like taking the time to type it out or scan it, so...?

After all that cleaning I returned to the apartment and decided to have some hot chocolate - Mum found the proper kettle (I have no idea where it was hiding), so I boiled up some water, made the hot chocolate...

And promptly burnt my tongue.

Good work, Moose! :OP

It's still sore now almost 24 hours later...but it'll probably be fine by tomorrow, the tongue heals itself very quickly.

I'm watching the SBS News and they're talking about that crazy canoeist and his wife who faked his own death for the insurance. Even to his own sons! How screwed up is that? As I understand it, his sons aren't speaking to their parents...ever again, I imagine.

So yeah, they've got 6 years each for fraud etc. What an horrible thing to do!

Anywho, here's the memes:

3x Thursday

Favorites and Memories

1. What are your favorite kinds of plant life (plants, flowers, etc)? Why?

Hmmm...well my favourite flower is the rose, but all in all I'd say trees, especially the ones that grow in the rainforest, I love all that greenery!

2. Do you associate any memories with certain things (flowers, objects, etc)? Any you'd care to share?

Hmmm...not that I can think of offhand.

3. By what method do you keep track of your memories (blogs, scrapbooks, etc)? If you don't do anything to preserve your memories, how do you keep track of them? Does it matter to you?

Well now a days with my LJ, prior to that I used to keep a written diary and of course, with photos when I remember to bring a camera. And it does matter to me because I'd hate to think of not been able to remember a lot of things because I don't have any record of them.

Booking Through Thursday

Beginnings

Here’s another idea about memorable first lines from books.

What are your favourite first sentences from books? Is there a book that you liked specially because of its first sentence? Or a book, perhaps that you didn’t like but still remember simply because of the first line?

Hmmmm...well, last night I was reminded of the opening line of Pride and Prejudice, which is a good one: "It is a truth universally acknowledged that a man of fortune must be in want of a wife." (Or close to that...)

As for other books...er I can't really think of any right now...this is why I can read books over and over again, I guess, LOL!

Thursday Threesome

::Toys 'r Us::

Onesome: Toys--? Any new tech toys at your place? No? What would you like to have that is all sorts of "new and improved" and just hard to live without?

Nope, I don't have any room for anything more in my apartment. I still haven't figured out why my Foxtel does that weird flickering thing (it's really odd because it doesn't show up on tapes when I record a program...weird...). I really should do something about that.

Twosome: 'r-- you ready for school to be in session again? Good grief, it's only July, but the Back to School sales have been in place for a few weeks now. Do you have a trinket you're planning on buying for yourself or the kids for this next year?

N/A

Threesome: Us--? Nah, nothing fancy going on on this blog space. How about you: any changes planned on your site in the upcoming months?

Nah, I've got it the way I like it, and my George III mood theme keeps him in mind, since I do want to finish that story some day....

Well, since I don't have to clean anything up or cook dinner (thanks Dad! :O) I can continue on the fanfic, which I shall do.

I wish you all, good night!

Hello ladies and gentlemen. (If there are any, we aren't a sexist comm.)

Sweet Valley has had a few books dealing with heavy issues. Date Rape (Don't Go Home With John) and Racism (Friend Against Friend), spring to mind.
There has also been steroid use, anorexia and stalking(x 100)to name a few.

Irina and I had a 'comments conversation' about The Long Lost Brother. http://community.livejournal.com/1bruce1/157827.html That book would have been so much better had it been written the way Irina suggested.

How do you think Sweet Valley deals with the Heavy Issues? How do you think they should have been written?

I'm hot and tired and I feel like I can't concentrate on anything for more than two minutes. This is more than a little annoying.

Rift Activity. Still nothing I feel like I should do anything with. Something for Doc to comment on, yes, but -- like I said, can't concentrate. *growl*

Rewatched "Wasp Woman" with Josh Way's commentary. Funny, but I think he does better work with his shorts. I still haven't watched his other "Fun With Flicks" entry though. I should do that sometime.

I don't know. I just feel cranky. Maybe I should make an early night of it for a change.

Ah, teh Joe Mooney drama! On Monday, my self confidence was CRUSHED when I was put in the Intermediate concertina class for the fourth freaking year in a row. The advanced concertina tutor - I'll call him NH - was grading us, didn't put me in his class, yet took in beginner pupils simply because he gives them regular lessons. I was muchly upset.

I'm not being vain or anything. I really thought I was coming on great and that I had a decent chance of getting into Advanced this year. But NH didn't think so. And 'Intermediate' is hardly that - it's more like Beginners Part 2.

And Sadhbh didn't show up :( She usually shows up every year. Now I don't have a pal :(

So Monday, I was upset. Tuesday, I decided that there was no point in me going to the Intermedite class, then I was upset again because I was missing out on Joe Mooney.

Today I was going to go to the bodhran class. And I've never played the bodhran. So it might have been a bad decision, only Mammy's friend Deirdre, who also plays the concertina and was getting fed up with the Intermediate class, phoned her and said that because there were so many people filling the concertina classes, a new teacher had been brought in.

Her name is Yvonne, and she was teaching an 'adults-only' class, because adults generally have more difficulty learning, but since I didn't fit in anywhere else I went along with Deirdre and the rest. And Yvonne is lovely, the class is great - only eight, whereas in yesterday in Intermediate there had apparently been TWENTY SIX. Yvonne lets the others simply learn the tune, then shows me lots of technique and nifty tricks and it's just what I wanted and it's BRILLIANT. She even made me play as an example to the others! But there are more teenagers coming tomorrow, so I'll probably no longer be the 'star', ROFL.

Me so happy. Because I realised that I don't want to be a merely good concertina player. I want to become a great one. That's why I need someone like Yvonne to be showing me different techniques and things.

Enough on that. What else? Well, my stupid laptop, for starters. Yesterday I simply moved the lid and the whole computer switched off and would not go back on. It switched on today but again, when I moved the lid, it went off.

Now it is on and balanced very tentatively on my knees. I'm afraid to even touch it for fear it'll switch off again. This is the very same problem I had nearly two years ago, and it had to be sent to Limerick to be fixed. Sigh.

My Debs is on Friday. Meep.

6:25pm: It's called that because it pisses you the hell off!

I was in terrible pain this morning and couldn't even eat my yogurt, my breakfast consisted of a banana.

Then I drove to work in some pain, spent most of the morning in pain and almost wigged out driving to get lunch.

However, I was able to eat lunch, and I felt a lot better...I ask you, what the deuce?! Not to mention the chocolate crackles my co-worker brought in.

Then I felt awful again and almost decided to go to my parents house rather than come back to the apartment...but I have to go through my Box Thing, so I came back and I'm feeling OK.

Seriously, WTF?! I want a refund on my digestive system.

I Looked It Up! )

I had a dream last night in which I got fired by my boss because my mother told him I'd been surfing on the internet! Mum's revenge for me not picking her up last night perhaps? The weird thing was that I was running around trying to get these cheques cashed at the bank, but it was taking sooo long. Then when I got back to the boss's house it was a construction site. Which isn't that out of place because next door to the boss's place is a construction site, which is a complete schamoozle as the guy who owns the house doesn't know shit.

Anyway, as mentioned, I have to start going through the Box Thing as part of my epic clean, so I better go down there sooner rather than later. I might call Mum before I go down, because I can't take my mobile down there because it doesn't work.

Before I go, here's a very interesting personality quiz I took a number of days ago, but haven't had a chance to put up 'til now.

I'm a O41-C4-E70-A63-N93 Big Five!!

And my fanfic is still calling, aaaieee! So much to do, so little time...

[mood | apathetic]

Now that there's a little more activity in the Rift, I can't think of a plausible reason for Rift!Doc to join any threads. Hmph.
-RPD: You could make your own again, you know.-
Feels too soon, for some reason. I can be a bit shy about this sometimes. Plus, I guess part of it is because I'm half-waiting on JD and his mun to say something about the whole "watching BTTF" thing. I'd kinda like to thread at least a little of it, but it appears the mun has vanished into the void of Real Life. *shrug*
-VD: At least Dr. Horrible got back to you.-
*laugh* Yeah, "he" did another video blog today, and talked a little about the Evil League of Evil because of Doc's incredulity. Apparently he also got into a scrape with the Rani. Hehehehehe. The mun does Billy so freaking well.
-D: I assume any response you give will include the phrase, "You -- he's seriously a horse?!"-
Or some variation, yes.
In other news, my devART friend Atomy drew a silly little fan comic for me today. :D A while back, she got the Hatter from the Disney Alice in Wonderland TV show as a muse, and we joked about her Doc and Hatter meeting my HatterDoc (with Ichabod and RPD also meeting to top things off). One thing led to another, and it got drawn! See it here
-HD: *beam* I'm famous!-
LOL, sort of. You really seemed to traumatize that other Doc.
-HD: :( I didn't mean to.-
-RPD: He'll get over it.-
-TD: I mean, sheesh, imagine what might happen if he came here.-
Hmmmmm. . . .
-VD2: Payback for the drawing?-
Yeah, though I might have to write it. I can't do crowd scenes.
-OD: *Albert* Why are we classed as the fan art muse again? Well, she does OCCASIONALLY draw.-
I'm just not very good at it! I'm better with fic. And I rarely want to take the time to actually work on drawing.
-OD: Still. . . .-
-DW: You could always do stick figure comics.-
Yeah, but my imagination sorta rebels at that. Hmmmm.
-TD: Automatic pen?-
With you it would release sleeping gas and double as a flamethrower.
-TD: It might not!-
-VDM: Yeah, it could act as a squirt gun and butter toast instead.-
-TD: -.--
-TTV: At least my story's going well.-
Ahh, yes, "Corpse Mask" is pretty steady going at about a page a day. In the middle of the first ball, where Victor wrecks some minor havoc.
-TTV: *grin* This is nice.-
-VM: Don't get too smug, Victor. She has to finish it some day.-
At any rate, I'm going to go poke at the Drabbles88 table and see if inspiration presents itself.

This one went around on my flist a while ago and I forgot to share it here, but here it is:

Give me a character or pairing (that I have *NOT* written before) in any of my main fandoms, and a 1 to 3 word prompt, and I'll write a drabble or short ficlet for them.

(Hint: it helps to make a list of your commonly written pairings.)

When you post this to your journals, link to them in comments; folks please check out others' comments and see if you can't find some fic you haven't seen before!

7:34pm: Aww crap! I missed the new Simpsons or at least the start of it! Damn my inability to keep track of time!

It was a rather funny episode, although it crapped on continuity...but does The Simpsons have continuity, probably not.

And oh shit, I had spinach for dinner, and I dropped some all over my Tour De France shirt! This is terrible because I can't wash it in the machine because otherwise the neat little picture on the back may fade away. Damn you all!

And ahem, about two hours have passed and I forgot all about this entry...But I'm going to bed soon since with no Mum here I can turn off the TV when I want! Last night she not only came back and turned it on to watch Lateline Business (talk about boring!), she knocked on the front door and kind of woke me up (I don't think I was quite asleep), even though she had a key!

I can't be too hard on Mum though because she got up early and cleaned out my cupboards of food I never use and don't need. Sweet.

I'm watching a really weird show about this family with 11 kids, who at first seemed to be pretty normal, but it turns out they are slightly religious nuts. They kicked one of their daughter's out for getting pregnant out of marriage (even though the same thing happened to her mother! Way to be hypocritical there, Mom!) Although at least they let their girls wear pants in this family unlike the Duggars, LOL!

Speaking of mothers, mine just called she's still stuck at the lawyers office and she asked me to come pick her up...but alas, I've had to put my foot down on it. If I bring Mum back here she'll be watching the Tour De France all night long! Poor Mum though, will she get home OK, I hope so.

Anywho, here's something fun, now that my room is cleaner, I can show you the before and after pics...please don't defriend me when you find out how I used to keep the place!

Fun with animator gifs )

10:03 pm: Or at least by my standards. Seriously, I could actually invite people over and take a picture and everything!

However, I shan't do that 'til tomorrow, because I'm tired and I have to go to bed because I haven't been getting enough zzzzs lately.

Anywho, the reason for me only getting onto the laptop at this very late hour is because I've been spending all afternoon cleaning because my mother has to attend a Strata Meeting and is spending the night. Originally this was because she was supposed to go somewhere to sign something tomorrow morning, she doesn't have to do that anymore, but she's staying over anyway. Which is good sicne I don't wanna drive her home at this hour.

I was relieved to find out that Le Tour de France won't be on tonight, because my mother loves watching it, and that would only keep me awake. But it's a rest day, so I'm safe!

Anywho, I left my memory stick with my fanfic on it at my parents house, so I couldn't work on that either, which at least helped me keep my mind on the cleaning.

So yeah, here's the Memes:

Manic Monday

What's your favorite beach in the world?

I've never really thought about it, I don't like swimming at the beach ever since I almost drowned when I was 13. I have to say I rather like Manly beach, but more for the view and the Corso than the actually beach.

What's the next country you want to visit?

The US of A! I want to go to New York and to Los Angeles to see the BTTF film sites.

What one thing are you craving today?

Well, I had a hell of a stomachache for a lot of the day, so nothing really...except for a clean house, which I finally have, yays!

Monday's A Bitch

Float My Boat

1. Have you ever been on a cruise?

Nope, unless you count the trip across the English Channel to France in one of those car boat things. It only took about two hours though, so I guess it doesn't really count.

2. Do you own a gravy boat?

Nope, don't like gravy.

3. You've become the proud owner of a brand new boat. What do you name your vessel?

Moose in Paradise, LOL!

4. What is your favourite movie about boats?

Haven't seen that many, Titanic was pretty good.

5. Do you get sea sick easily?

I'm not sure, but I'm afraid I might, which is why I stay away from boats!

Anywho, I want to get to bed before Mum gets back from her meeting, so I bid you all goodnight!

MUNCLE reviews, part whatever. [Jul. 21st, 2008|03:15 am]

kleenexwoman

[mood | still kind of buzzed]

We've been watching more Man from U.N.C.L.E. on [info]drworm's computer, and he has been very active in persuading me to write more little review blurbs for them. So here are some review blurbs.

Terbuf:
I liked that they had Gypsy characters and portrayed them as actual people with their own political problems and distinct cultural groups instead of curse-casting, fortune-telling plot devices (like they did in The Bow-Wow Affair. So classy). Also, the half-Gypsy guard? Also played two different THRUSH agents, Oregano in The Hula Doll Affair and Eddie in The Dippy Blonde Affair. Rex Holman. Blonde. Hot. Was in a ton of old TV shows. We notice these things.

Concrete Overcoat:
Fucking A+++. Cute old Mafia guys! Napoleon concerned about the societal standing of a girl everybody thinks he fucked! Janet Leigh as a hot psychopath! Incredibly cheesecakey catfight! THRUSH officials gettin' their freak on in a totally upper-middle-class fashion! Humorously repressed villain! (This was where Seth observed that all the villains have more consistent character development than the main characters. This is true. I would totally watch a Hitchcock movie about Miss Diketon.)

Mad Mad Tea Party:
Really cute for a first-season episode. I mean, come on, guppies! What better way to test a security system than with children's toys and tiny pet fishies? Had they been able to work puppies in there somehow, it would have been completely perfect. I even actually enjoyed the plot thread with the "Innocent" (Alice? IDK); she was cute and had an interesting voice and seemed fairly realistic about being pulled into a depressing underground facility and having to be interrogated by a scary blonde.

Adriatic Express:
Felt longer than it was, much like most New Year's Eve parties. The fights were actually sort of lame, but I almost like that more than well-choreographed fights in this show. Seems more realistic. I liked that THRUSH was apparently started by the aging lead lady; explains their equal-opportunity employing policy in regards to women. (Sisters gotta stick together. Except when they're tarting up their teenage girltoys to throw at enemy spies, who are like, "Oh, girlfriend, that color is all wrong for you.")

Deadly Goddess:
Illya doesn't like girls. Napoleon doesn't like the idea of matrimony. There's a guy with Alzheimer's. The "Deadly Goddess" is a little piece of mud and it's basically a huge rip-off of a title. Come on, where are the human sacrifices? Where are the scary people in robes? Where are the hundred-foot-tall Venus of Willendorfs with teeth where teeth should not be? MUNCLE fails at pulp.

Cap and Gown:
Okay, the teaching machine? We have that at CMU. Every year, a couple of profs decide that it would be easier to use it for some lecture hall class, and every year it doesn't work very well, and every year a few hundred students get graded on a malfunctioning curve and get poison gas squirted into their faces. Technology >:(

Green Opal:
I loved this episode. I had absolutely no idea what was going on at any given time, but it completely did not matter. Illya trying to kill Napoleon with a blade-covered spinny block! Napoleon as a prissy nerd with a bowtie! Cheetahs! Archie Bunker in a wheelchair! GUN AIMED AT THE AUDIENCE OH NOES! :O

Finny Foot:
I actually really liked the beginning of this one. It was very Andromeda Strain. But mostly what I liked was baby Kurt Russell! The last time I saw him in anything his character was getting stomped to death by some girls he tried to kill with his car. [info]drworm and I were making bunny noises after this one. All, "EEE, he has a daddy-crush on Napoleon! And he has an awesome little box with a hand!"

Dippy Blonde:
The titular character was so awesome. IDK why, but I like female characters who are petty criminals. And she was very cute about it. Also, I liked the emphasis on the THRUSH characters, partially because MORE REX HOLMAN and partially because, well, I like watching bad guys do their thing behind the scenes.

Deadly Games:
Angelique is way too hot for Napoleon, and he knows it, and she knows that he knows it. Is there, like, an edition of "She's Not That Into You" for guys? I mean, it isn't even the spider in the carnation (it's, like, everything she says to him), although that's definitely something you'd do if you were a hot lady spy and trying to passively get rid of a guy who kept hanging around. I've thought about doing that to some guys and I'm not even a hot lady spy. Also, she has a fucking sexy car and I don't know why she lets Napoleon drive that baby. So far as I've seen, he can't drive for shit.

I kind of think Angelique would be one of those straight-esque girls who are like, "Oh, men's bodies are so boring, penises are so ugly," but then are inexplicably still straight and still go out with guys and have sex with them and things of that nature. ...yeah, we were hanging out with Sammi and had this bizarre discussion on body image and attraction (bizarre because Sammi was drunk, I was half-drunk, and Seth was still completely in control of his faculties), and I discovered that some women think that way and that it's apparently a popular opinion with straight women. I do not comprehend this. ¿PATRIARCHY?
